About National Council of Hispano Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Who are we?
A group of Hispano deaf and hard of hearing persons who want to see our people have equal rights and access to succeed in the United States. This National organization, National Council of Hispano Deaf and Hard of Hearing – Fray Pedro Ponce de Leon, will provide support and services to Hispano deaf of all ages.
Organization Goals

To educate the mass media

To serve as a catalytic agent for positive change of the deaf Hispano community within and outside of the US

To support assistance to eliminate the educational economic and social inequalities faced by deaf Hispanos

Incorporation
The National Council of Hispano Deaf and Hard of Hearing – Fray Pedro Ponce de Leon, Inc is now incorporated in the state of New Mexico – so it has regulatory stability. It also has bylaws and a current office at the New Mexico School of the Deaf
Support
- Communication Service for the Deaf in Sioux Falls, SD and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services of the US Department of Education have provided initial support to start the NCDH-HH. Thank you!
- New Mexico School for the Deaf as providing office and resource support
- The NCHD-HH plans to solicit continued support from all public and private sources.
- The NCHD-HH plans many national, regional, state and local activities.
A National Effort and Need
- The Hispano school-age population does not achieve very well in school
- Only a small percentage go to college and of those that do, few graduate
- The number of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Hispanos in higher professional jobs is very small
- The national Hispano population is much larger and deaf Hispanos have to be ready to compete
